Availability and business hours
Quick answer - Availability controls when customers can book. Business hours control what your business shows and what the AI says. Keep both aligned so Resk does not offer times you cannot handle.
Use this guide when - Owners and admins are setting bookable hours, staff availability, services, buffers, or customer-facing opening hours.
Before you start - Know your real opening hours, bookable service hours, staff coverage, appointment durations, booking window, and cancellation rules.
Two different questions
Availability in Resk answers two different questions:
- When is your business open? These are the hours customers see and the hours the AI may use when answering general questions.
- When can new appointments be booked? These come from scheduling rules, services, buffers, staff, places, and booking windows.
Those answers can be different. For example, your business may answer calls from 9am to 5pm, but only offer appointments from 10am to 4pm.
Open Booking & Availability
Use Booking & Availability when Resk books appointments for a service business such as a barber, salon, clinic, consultant, class, or repair counter.
- Open Booking & Availability.
- Review What you offer.
- Review How booking works.
- Review Policies.
- Save each section you change.
- Run a test booking after the setup is complete.
For booking to work reliably, you need at least one named booking type, a duration, open hours, and a clear rule for what happens when the requested time is not available.
Set booking types
Booking types are the services customers can choose. This might be a consultation, class, repair visit, appointment, table reservation, or service slot.
- In What you offer, open Booking types.
- Add one row for each service customers can book.
- Give every service a clear name.
- Keep the type as Appointment for normal one-to-one bookings.
- Set the duration in minutes.
- Add the price where your account supports it.
- Save.
Do not combine different services into one vague option if they take different amounts of time. Separate services with different durations keep the diary accurate.
Assign services to the right team
Use team assignment when only certain people can perform a service, or when customers can book with any available team member.
- Open Team assignment.
- Choose Anyone when any staff member can handle the service.
- Choose specific staff when a service needs a named person.
- Save the assignment.
For example, if only one staff member handles a specialist service, assign that service to them. If everyone can do it, leave it open to anyone available. This prevents Resk from offering a slot with the wrong staff member.
Set business hours, booking window, and gaps
Business hours define when bookings can happen. Booking window controls how far ahead a customer can book. Gaps add time before or after appointments.
- Set the days your business accepts appointments.
- Set the open and close time for each day.
- Open Booking window.
- Set how many days ahead customers can book.
- Set the minimum notice before a booking can start.
- Add gaps if you need cleanup, prep, travel, or reset time.
- Save.
Keep the booking window realistic so customers do not book too far ahead if your rota, opening hours, or staff coverage changes often.
Set deposits and payment rules
Deposits help protect busy slots and higher-value services.
- Open Deposits & payments.
- Choose No payment up front if customers can book without paying.
- Choose Collect a deposit when customers must pay part of the price before the slot is held.
- Choose Full payment required when the whole booking must be paid at booking time.
- If using a deposit, set the percentage of the booking price.
- Save.
Use deposits where no-shows hurt the business most, such as peak times, long appointments, or services that need a specialist.
Review policies
Policies tell Resk what to do when the booking cannot be completed exactly as requested.
- Check When nothing is available.
- Choose whether Resk should offer the next free time, offer a callback, or take a message.
- Check whether bookings need approval.
- Review Customer self-service.
- Set whether customers can reschedule or cancel themselves.
- Add special notes only when they help Resk make the right booking decision.
Good policy notes are practical. “Offer another team member if the requested person is full” is useful. “We are flexible” is too vague.
Fix slots that look wrong
If slots feel too tight or too sparse:
- Check service duration.
- Check buffer time.
- Check lead time.
- Check how far ahead the calendar opens.
- Check staff, room, or location restrictions.
- Check timezone.
Set business profile hours
Business profile hours help your greeting, FAQs, website, and customer-facing information stay accurate.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Profile or Business profile.
- Review regular hours.
- Update holiday or seasonal hours where available.
- Save.
These hours may not be the only source for bookable slots. Always complete the Availability or booking setup flow if Resk should book appointments.
Restaurant hours
Restaurants often have service periods, reservation rules, menu times, and closed days in Restaurant settings. If voice booking for reservations does not match kitchen or floor hours, check restaurant settings first.
Garage scheduling
Garages may tie availability to bays, technicians, and job types. Check garage services, job durations, public booking rules, and staff availability together.
