Bookings and services overview
Quick answer - A service is what someone can book. A booking is the confirmed appointment in the diary. Set up services first, then availability, then test the customer booking flow.
Use this guide when - You are setting up appointments for a barber, salon, service desk, consultation business, class, or similar booking-led business.
Simple mental model
- What can customers book? Add booking types such as Haircut, Skin Fade, Beard Trim, Consultation, or Service Visit.
- Who or what is needed? Assign services to staff, rooms, chairs, bays, or resources where needed.
- When can bookings happen? Set business hours, booking window, minimum notice, and gaps.
- What happens if nothing fits? Decide whether Resk should offer the next free time, offer a callback, or take a message.
- How do customers book? Publish the public booking page or let staff create bookings manually.
Setup order
- Complete Availability and business hours.
- Add your public-facing brand details in Public site and QR codes.
- Test a customer booking from the public page.
- Test a staff booking from Bookings.
- Check the diary after both tests.
Manual bookings
Staff can add bookings when someone walks in, calls, emails, or sends a message. Use Bookings to create the appointment, choose the service, add customer details, and leave short notes for the team.
What to avoid
- Creating one generic service for everything.
- Leaving a service without a duration.
- Allowing bookings outside real working hours.
- Adding long internal notes that customers or staff cannot act on.
- Publishing the public page before testing a real booking.
